Overview
The New Zealand Geothermal Association commissioned me to design the New Zealand pavilion for the World Geothermal Congress 2020 in Reykjavík. During the process, I developed a supporting brand identity to help unify the pavilion graphics and create a stronger, more memorable presence.

Project Goals
Challenge

The pavilion needed to represent New Zealand at an international geothermal conference in a way that felt credible, visually coherent, and distinctive. It also had to balance technical geothermal content with broader themes of innovation, sustainability, and place.

Approach
  • Worked with stakeholders and key representatives to shape the creative direction.
  • Developed a strategic visual approach informed by research into geothermal energy, tourism, science, and culture.
  • Created early concepts through sketching, brainstorming, and visual exploration.
  • Designed a supporting brand identity to bring consistency across the pavilion elements.
  • Produced detailed pavilion graphics and final artwork ready for implementation.
Outcome

The result was a cohesive pavilion concept with a clear visual identity that helped present New Zealand as a leader in geothermal innovation and sustainable development. Although the conference was later cancelled, the project demonstrates my ability to think beyond a single deliverable and build a stronger system around the brief.
